My art practice has always been related to the expansion of consciousness. That’s why these sculptures often have a hole in the head. The impulse of realization and change of consciousness, for me, is a physical sensation piercing through the forehead and spreading from the top of the head into the collective unconscious.
Emptiness in the body is a feeling of pain but also a sense of existence, for me emptiness is potential, a connection with infinity. If it wasn’t for that void in my body, I wouldn’t be here now and writing this text. The void in the body that all my sculptures have is related to the intuitive, intelligence and memory written in the body.
I often plant plants in the sculptures, usually, the plants are weeds. The term weed is related to plants that are undesirable. Weeds have always fascinated me because of their defiance, endurance, and strength.
Figures of human bodies with holes and empty spaces representing emotions, filled with earth from which plants grow, these sculptures indicate the connection between the emotional and the natural world.
