The organization for nature protection “Drvo” was founded on 29/12/1999 with the aim of protecting, preserving, improving the environment, and awakening the ecological awareness of citizens. The DRVO organization was created as a response to the systematic destruction of nature in Serbia. The organization’s activists were mostly mountaineers, divers, and speleologists, as well as people from the creative world. The main idea in creating this organization was to promote the idea of environmental protection through cultural events.
Spending time in nature at the end of the nineties in Belgrade was the only way to preserve sanity. We basically organized techno parties, concerts, and artistic performances in forests and parks.
In at the time polarized Serbia between those for and those against the ruling regime, this green alternative was a true avant-guard.
